News: Faster, Lighter BMW M3 GTS-R on the Way?
Not more than six months ago, BMW introduced the ultimate version of the all-new E92 BMW M3: the GTS. With a built-in rollcage, upgraded dampers and brakes, and a reworked 4.4 liter V8 engine good for 450 horsepower, the svelte M3 GTS – which weighed some 400 lbs less than the standard model – was a focused, track ready street car that was capable of world-class performance. Built in the vein of cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Ferrari Challenge Stradale, the M3 GTS was designed solely with performance in mind, and was intended for BMW’s most demanding, most enthusiastic customers.
Now it would appear that an even lighter and faster version may be on the way called the GTS-R. As Porsche has recently done with the introduction of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, BMW is considering upgrading the GTS to improve upon its already brilliant performance. We for one are all for such a car of course; we are enormous fans of the current E92 BMW M3 and have always appreciated track-ready cars like the Ferrari F430 Scuderia and Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG. Unfortunately, even is the GTS-R does come to fruition, we probably won’t be able to lay our hands on it anytime soon, as they are sure to get scooped up by die hard BMW fans!
Even if you can’t get behind the wheel of the M3 GTS, you can still experience the ultimate driving machine firsthand: our BMW rental fleet features the BMW M6 convertible as well as the BMW X5. Needless to say, we are confident that you will find a car to your liking!
