The Bentley History

Walter Owen Bentley of England founded Bentley Motors limited on January 18, 1919.

Bentley is currently owned and operated by Volkswagen. Before Bentley Motors, he was successful for his rotary engines he created during World War 1 (WWI). Bentley built very reliable and durable cars whose biggest competitor during the 1920's and 30's was Bugatti. Bentley later became the official car James Bond used in the novels written. The Bentley Continental was introduced in 1952 and proved to be similar to the Rolls Royce's but has a smaller price tag.

The Continental was produced until 1965, which later was introduced in 1992 once again. The new 2008 Bentley Continental offers superior performance including a Supercharged W12 engine which produced 600 horsepower, and a carbon ceramic brake system for improved braking performance. This car accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, with an achievable top speed in excess of 200 mph.

Today, Bentley's competition includes Maybach and Rolls Royce, but then again Bentley offers a luxurious ride with great performance and handling.
